
The gossamer edge of my crimson silk saree whispered against the marble floor as I adjusted the pleats at my waist, stealing a glance at the bed where my world lay. The golden rays of dawn had barely begun to filter through the heavy brocade curtains, casting the room in a soft amber glow.
